About Oil Filters
Air Compressor Oil Filters
Oil filters remove metal particles, carbon deposits, dirt, and other contaminants from the compressor lubricant as it circulates through the system. Clean lubricant helps protect the airend, bearings, gears, and other internal components that depend on a consistent supply of filtered oil.
As an oil filter collects debris, resistance through the element increases. A severely restricted filter can reduce lubricant flow, increase pressure drop, and contribute to elevated operating temperatures. Depending on the compressor design, the bypass valve may open to maintain oil flow, allowing unfiltered lubricant to circulate through the equipment.
Oil filters should be replaced at the manufacturer’s recommended service interval and whenever the compressor lubricant is changed. Using the correct filter and maintaining consistent service intervals helps preserve lubrication quality, reduce internal wear, and support dependable compressor operation.
