Air/Oil Separators
Air/oil separators remove lubricant from the compressed-air stream inside oil-injected rotary screw compressors. The separator media collects fine oil droplets and allows the recovered lubricant to return to the compressor’s oil system while cleaner compressed air continues downstream.
As the separator becomes contaminated, resistance through the element increases. A restricted separator can create excessive pressure drop, increase energy consumption, reduce compressor performance, and contribute to elevated operating temperatures. Damaged or saturated separator media may also allow excessive oil to carry over into the compressed-air system.
Air/oil separators should be inspected and replaced according to the compressor manufacturer’s recommended service interval. Proper lubricant, clean filtration, and a correctly operating oil-return system all help extend separator life and maintain efficient compressor operation.
